Pennsylvania’s Beer Industry Group Announces New Name

Change to reflect multi-faceted role in community

July, 2009

Harrisburg, PA, — The Pennsylvania Beer Wholesalers Association announced today that it is changing its name to Pennsylvania Beer Alliance to reflect more accurately the association’s membership and its role in the industry, as well as acknowledging its partnership with the larger community.

"The change to Pennsylvania Beer Alliance will allow people to see the broader spectrum of the beer wholesalers’ role in the state,” said Pennsylvania Beer Alliance President Jay Wiederhold.  "Our wholesaler distributors work within their local communities to promote alcohol awareness, safe consumption and distribution of malt and brewed beverages, and work towards strengthening and promoting the three tier system in Pennsylvania that has worked so effectively for over 75 years.  This demonstrates our membership is truly an alliance working together with industry partners to provide choice and value in a safely regulated system."

The Pennsylvania Beer Alliance will officially begin use of the new name at its legislative conference on June 22nd and 23rd in Harrisburg.

"Now was the right time to change the name as we take our Alliance to the Capitol to push for important measures such as bringing our Liquor Code into compliance with U.S. Supreme Court rulings, Wiederhold stated.  "This is the first of several issues we will be working on with the legislature and the community to protect our Commonwealth from the dangers posed by sliding deregulation of the alcohol distribution system."

Members of the Pennsylvania Beer Alliance will be at the Capitol on June 23rd discussing these important issues.
